Abstract: This essay discusses three alternatives to Synthetic Phonics Instruction: Analytic Phonics Instruction, Analogy-Based Phonics Instruction, and Embedded Phonics Instruction. Definitions and examples are given for each method, and the different strategies are compared to each other.
